Amish Food - Holmes County, Ohio
Ohio Amish country is full of wonderful places to find a variety of food to
either bring home or eat while there. We decided to give you some of our
favorite place to find Amish food while primarily in Holmes County, the heart
of Amish country Ohio.
If you are traveling south on route 62 from Stark County, you will find in
Wilmot, Ohio the Amish Door Restaurant. The food is home cooking style,
with a salad bar extraordinaire! You’ll enjoy their dinners, too, as well as
their home made pies. As we continue on our journey down 62, one will
eventually come to Winesburg, Ohio and some good places to stop for
food. The Winesburg Family Restaurant makes a fantastic home-cooked
meal. The desserts are also wonderful. While in town, be sure to stop at
Winesburg Meats, where many stop to purchase all sorts of Amish country
meats to take home. While we are mentioning meats, just down the street
you will find route 515 which leads to Trail, a very small town, where you will
find the home of Troyer’s Trail Bologna, famously delicious and worth the
purchase. On our food journey, we suggest staying on 515 until you come
to Walnut Creek. Walnut Creek has a wonderful restaurant known as Der
Dutchman where home made, family-style cooking will warm the soul. We
highly recommend Der Dutchman as a place to eat on your journey through
Amish Country. They also have a wondrous bakery, too! While in Walnut
Creek, it would be a good idea to stop at the Coblentz Chocolate Factory
(see the Coblentz video next page) and take home some super candies!
As we continue on our Amish food journey, we suggest heading west on
route 39 and into the shopping hub of Ohio Amish country, Berlin. Tucked
just down the street on County Road 77 (just off of 62) is Heini’s Cheese
Chalet. This is a wonderful place to sample Ohio Amish country cheese
galore, and decide on the flavors you wish to bring home with you. While at
Heini’s, one need only look across the parking lot to see Kauffman’s
Country Bakery. Kauffman’s has a range of baked foods, such as donuts,
cream sticks, breads, pumpkin bars, fruit chews and more!
