Elkhart, Indiana
The town of Elkhart, Indiana is largest of communities found within Indiana's Amish country counties, Elkhart County to be exact. The town of Elkhart settled on the northwest bank of the St. Joseph River and was named after the shape of an island found at the joining of the Elkhart and St. Joseph Rivers. The land was originally inhabited by the Ottawa, Pottawatomie, and Chippewa native American tribes until it was first settled in 1827. The population of Elkhart is roughly 52,000 people.
